Overview

Volumetric additive manufacturing prints a part all at once rather than layer by layer. That makes it fast, and it makes the errors systematic rather than random. If each printed part can be measured accurately enough, those errors become a correction signal for the next print.

Work

  • Developed a closed-loop workflow in which 3D reconstruction of each printed part drives parameter corrections for the next.
  • Built an automated inspection workflow for CT-scanned lattices, running from segmentation through defect reporting and preparation for finite element analysis.

Connection to my wildfire work

The domain is different but the problem is familiar. A slash pile and a printed lattice both have a true geometry that has to be recovered from a scan and then trusted. Livermore offers fast iteration and precise ground truth, which is useful for thinking about the slower and noisier version of the same problem in the field.
